Europatag in Frankfurt am Main

I have been passionately interested in politics since my youth. The idea of the political itself has become increasingly important to me. Equally important to me is the European Union, and making sure it's rooted in the people. The European Union, like democracy and the rule of law, is one of the foundations of our life in peace, freedom and prosperity. That is why I am still very happy that I was able to stand as a candidate for the European elections in 2009 on the Newropeans list in Germany. This trans-European citizens' movement with the aim of democratising the EU no longer exists.

I was born in 1957 in Backnang, in the Rems-Murr district of Baden-Württemberg. I studied public administration at the University of Konstanz and political science at the Free University of Berlin. I have a degree in political science. Our family has moved several times. Three decades ago we found a home in the Rhine-Main area. This gave me the opportunity to work for many years as a press officer in the administration of a small town.

I am grateful for the opportunities I have had. That's why I try to give something back to society, both in my professional life and in my civic engagement. Because nothing can be taken for granted. And especially in a democracy, citizens have a great responsibility. If it is to survive, we cannot do without their critical contribution - with heart and mind.
